About the Item
This elegant, extra long “Hamilton” sideboard was designed in 1958 by Robert Heritage for Archie Shine as part of the ‘Hamilton’ Rosewood series, which won a Design Centre Award. Robert Heritage is synonymous with great British design, and cabinetmakers Archie Shine pioneered the Scandinavian style in Britain in the late 1950s and 60s. Like all Archie Shine products, Robert Heritage pieces are of excellent quality and were only sold in very exclusive stores such as Harrods and Heal’s.
This particular sideboard is made from sapele, and features four drawers with a wonderful reeded finish - the top one with fully intact green baize lined cutlery inserts - the double doors open out to reveal two large two-tiered shelved cupboards with a vast amount of storage space. The detail is superb; raised rear lip, turned brass trumpet handles and narrow tapered legs that have a fine decorative incised dado.
