About the Item

Amazing and very trendy Danish chest of drawers in teak, designs by the renowned Hans Olsen and a clear example of mid-20th-century Scandinavian design. It is a simple yet sophisticated design with clean, straight lines. Its asymmetrical structure features three shelves on one side and a door on the other. The handles are the only element that allows for curved, almost sculptural forms. It stands on four slender, square-section legs, creating a light visual effect, a distinctive characteristic of the style. About Modern Scandinavian Style and Design When we refer to Nordic style or Scandinavian design, we are talking about the countries of Northern Europe, specifically Sweden and Norway, but also including Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. This style is characterized by its functionality, utility, formality, minimalism, timelessness, and durability, as well as the use of local and environmentally friendly materials, such as wood. The stylistic elegance we know today came about thanks to the influence of early 20th-century decorative movements (Art Nouveau and Jugendstil) and the simplicity and purity of the interwar artistic movements (Constructivism, De Stijl, the Bauhaus, etc.). The 1930 Stockholm Exhibition was a significant point of reference, where designers blended local materials with modernity to create comfortable and luminous spaces. In 1954, the concept of "Scandinavian design" was coined, following a North American exhibition of that name that promoted both the lifestyle and interior design of the Nordic countries. Hans Olsen (1919-1992) Hans Olsen was a prominent Danish furniture designer, renowned for his contribution to Scandinavian design, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Denmark, he trained at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he began to develop his distinctive style. Throughout his career, Olsen was known for creating furniture that combined functionality with elegance, using natural materials such as teak and leather. His work reflects the influences of modern design and the simplicity characteristic of Scandinavian style. Many of his pieces, especially chairs and dressers, remain highly valued today for their aesthetic appeal and quality. He also collaborated with several Danish furniture brands and was an innovator in the use of simple geometric forms and clean lines.
