About the Item
This rare C3 sideboard, designed by Alf Aarseth for Gustav Bahus in the early 1960s, is an exceptional example of Norwegian mid-century craftsmanship. The piece appears in an original Gustav Bahus catalog from the period, which confirms its authenticity and situates it within the designer’s most refined work. Made in jacarandá with a rich and expressive grain, it carries the depth and warmth that define high-quality Scandinavian wood furniture of the era.
The internal layout is beautifully considered: four drawers lined in green velvet and two spacious compartments on each side, each with a removable shelf that allows flexible use. The proportions are elegant, long and balanced, and the façade highlights the natural movement of the wood in a quiet but sophisticated way. Every detail reflects the care of its making, from the joinery to the subtle transitions between surfaces.
The sideboard has undergone a careful restoration that preserves the character of the original finish. The structure is solid, the sliding and opening mechanisms work smoothly, and the overall appearance is harmonious and refined.
Pieces by Alf Aarseth for Gustav Bahus are sought after for their balance of sculptural quality and practical design. This model combines rarity, historical relevance and excellent craftsmanship, making it a strong acquisition for collectors and for interiors that value original mid-century furniture. Its scale, materials and preserved finish give it presence, while the internal configuration makes it highly functional for contemporary use.
