About the Item
This coat stand is part of the experimental FerroTipi series (1968), designed by Gianantonio Malacrida in collaboration with Paolo Resmini, and represents one of the most essential and sculptural expressions within the entire body of work.
Executed entirely in shaped tubular steel, the coat stand is conceived as a self-supporting vertical element, in which structure and function merge into a single continuous gesture. The slender central shaft rises with architectural clarity and opens at the top into a crown of curved arms, obtained through the controlled deformation of metal, designed to accommodate coats and garments without the addition of applied elements.
At the base, the structure resolves into curved, outward-reaching feet, ensuring stability while reinforcing the perception of an object that appears to "grow" organically from the ground, despite remaining firmly rooted in an industrial and rational vocabulary.
As described by Anty Pansera in relation to the FerroTipi series, the object emerges from a reflection on the minimal formal gesture, the reduction of material to its essence, and the transformation of structural necessity into expressive language. This coat stand is not conceived as a decorative accessory, but as an architectural presence within space, capable of establishing an autonomous dialogue with its surroundings.
Designed for entrances, studios, and large interiors, the FerroTipi coat stand can be freely positioned without wall support, reaffirming one of the core principles of the series: a self-sufficient design in which function, structure, and form coincide in a rigorous and balanced unity.
Surviving examples of FerroTipi coat stands are today particularly rare and stand as significant testimonies to the experimental climate of Italian design in the late 1960s, positioned at the intersection of furniture, sculpture, and architecture.
