About the Item

Willy Rizzo ‘Buffet Alveo’ in Lacquer and Metal for Mario Sabot, Italy - 1970. Willy Rizzo (1928–2013) was an Italian designer and photographer known for his glamorous, modernist furniture and iconic celebrity portraits. Born in Naples, he initially gained fame as a photographer, capturing Hollywood stars, artists, and fashion icons for publications like Paris Match and Vogue. His subjects included Marilyn Monroe, Salvador Dalí, and Brigitte Bardot. In the late 1960s, Rizzo transitioned into furniture design, creating sleek, luxurious pieces that embodied the jet-set lifestyle. His work featured bold geometric forms, high-gloss lacquer, rich wood veneers, and metallic accents, often incorporating hidden compartments and multifunctional elements. He designed for private clients, including royalty and fashion designers, and worked with Italian manufacturer Mario Sabot. One of his most famous pieces is the Alveo coffee table, which includes a recessed compartment for drinks, embodying his blend of elegance and practicality. His designs remain highly collectible today, valued for their timeless sophistication and connection to the golden era of mid-century Italian design.
