About the Item

This two door display cabinet dates from the first third of the 19th century and was produced in France. Crafted in oak wood and covered in mahogany, the cabinet presents a refined architectural composition enriched by columns executed in solid mahogany. The careful selection and combination of woods emphasize both structural strength and decorative elegance. The fittings and keyholes are made of mercury gilded bronze and are hand chiseled, adding a high level of artisanal detail and visual richness to the exterior. These bronze elements introduce a subtle ornamental contrast against the warm tones of the wood, reinforcing the cabinet’s decorative character. The interior is upholstered in cotton velvet and fitted with glass shelves, allowing the cabinet to function as a display piece while maintaining a sense of refinement. An interior light has been installed at a later date, enhancing visibility without altering the original structure. Conceived as both a functional storage piece and a display cabinet, this work reflects the craftsmanship and material sophistication characteristic of French furniture from the early 19th century. Its balanced proportions and fine detailing make it suitable for classical interiors as well as curated, eclectic settings.
