About the Item

This elegant and tall antique bonnetière, or single-door armoire, was crafted in the Périgord region of France circa 1750. Built from rich fruitwood, the cabinet stands on turned bun feet over a molded plinth base and is dressed with a deep, wide, and removable crown. The façade features bold diamond-shaped geometric panels framed with raised moldings, mirrored on the side panels for architectural harmony. A large lower drawer, complete with its original forged iron pull, adds both functionality and balance to the composition. Flanking the central door are a pair of dramatic barley twist columns, a hallmark of the Louis XIII style, which lend both movement and vertical emphasis. Inside, the cabinet offers ample storage with a fixed mid-shelf, while the original large lock and monumental key remain intact. The warm walnut patina, enhanced by centuries of natural aging, highlights the grain and craftsmanship throughout. This versatile piece, in very good condition commensurate with age and use, will bring a refined presence to a bedroom, living room, or entryway. A beautiful example of provincial French woodworking that merges utility with timeless style. Measures: 42″ W x 25″ D x 88″ H
