About the Item

A most attractive Continental 19th century Biedermeier st. Maple and ebonized Fruitwood armoire. This handsome armoire is raised by eight block supports below the straight frieze, which is elegantly decorated by a quarter round ebonized Fruitwood trim. The three doors above are decorated with square bottom solid Maplewood panels with ebonized Fruitwood square reserves with concave sides, with the sides displaying elegant vertical recessed panels. Above are vertical rectangular recessed panels with a star shaped trim accented by a central diamond inlay. Each door is fitted with an inlaid diamond shaped keyhole escutcheon and open to reveal three original fitted adjustable shelves. The top crown is similarly designed as the bottom apron with the same ebonized Fruitwood trim and having a mottled Maplewood crown with top ebonized Fruitwood band.

A monumental Dutch 19th century ‘Meubles à Coussins’ ebony and walnut Kussenkast. This most impressive cabinet is raised by bun feet below the dentil shaped frieze. At the bottom of cabinet is a wide drawer with original iron pulls. The raised double paneled doors are framed within rippled ebony borders and flanked by ebony columns raised on walnut blocks. All below stunning top capitols of cherubs and floral garlands. The central front column slides to the side to reveal the hidden keyhole. The impressive top has an extended crown of rippled ebony moldings decorated by carved lions finished in walnut. Dutch cabinets of this nature are excellent examples of craftsmanship from the second quarter of the 17th century. Commissioned by wealthy families to celebrate a marriage or to have imposing pieces of furniture.
