Armoire and Nightstand Set

33 13/16" H x 14 3/4" D x 19 1/2" W [nightstand]
Constructed in quarter-sawn oak with cast brass hardware designed by Serrurier-Bovy for the set, this Belgian Art Nouveau bedroom suite includes a large armoire and a matching nightstand. The armoire features an asymmetrical composition with a beveled mirror door to the left and a glazed display cabinet and inset drawer over four hand-dovetailed drawers on the right. The left side encloses a full-length armoire-style interior without shelving behind a large beveled-mirror door over a single full-width drawer. Conveniently the armoire largely breaks down for ease of transport: the top, door, entire left side along with its back detach, leaving the upright cabinet as a standalone unit. The matching nightstand features a single drawer over an open compartment with shaped apron and feet.
Condition: Age appropriate wear and rubbing throughout. Early surface, bright and attractive. Working key for drawers, no working keys for doors. Interior hanging bar is replaced and somewhat warped - we can have a new one installed upon request. Many replaced screws.

Bronze Antique Armoire Wardrobe ca. 1880

LOUIS XVI STYLE PARQUETRY-INLAID ORMOLU MOUNTED ONE-DOOR ARMOIRE
Paris, France circa 1880 lock stamped "B
P Paris", back of one mount stamped "L.P."
Item # 403BDA14P
This exquisite Louis XVI style armoire is a picture of the high precision cabinetwork the French ébénistes of the 19th century were capable of producing. Crafted in Paris in the last years of the 19th century, the cabinet is finished on the top with an original marble top shaped to conform to the cabinet profile. This is raised by a thin crown of egg-and-dart molding over a repeating greek-key border executed in solid brass.
The front door is a brilliant display of parquetry inlay work, an extraordinarily complicated arrangement that comes together flawlessly: the kingwood veneer ground is set diagonally while being bookmatched down the center to create symmetry - a form that is more fully developed in the sides of the case where these diagonal veneers are set into rectilinear and square panels for greater effect. This surrounds a rosewood and stringer-inlaid border encasing a latticework of rosewood astragals over squared lighter hue woods. The application of the veneers is so convincingly executed - note the curves of the rosewood inlays where the grain of the wood twists to create spirals that appear to layer upon one another. In the center of the door is a large ormolu mount of a Neoclassical urn with bacchus masks on either side raised over a pierced footer embellished by foliage.
This door opens using only a key, as there is no knob or pull hardware to allow access to the space. The interior is a very spacious and simple arrangement that allows clothing to be hung while valuables and smalls are stored in the cupboard at the top. No keys are presently available for the door or the interior cupboard, but if locking the armoire is important than having keys fabricated is never terribly difficult and can be done by our shop upon request.
The lock is marked on the inside by the fabricator "B
P Paris", while one fo the rosette mounts on the corners of the cabinet is marked "L.P."
A magnificent example of Parisian craftsmanship from the late 19th century, this is a very fine armoire of ideal dimensions for both function and aesthetically. Unlike so many armoires and wardrobes...

French Waxed Oak Swinging Bar Serving Cabinet by Guillerme et Chambron
By Guillerme et Chambron
Located in Shippensburg, PA
WAXED OAK AND TILE SWINGING BAR CABINET
By Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron designed for Votre Maison with original Spanish ceramic tiles unmarked, circa 1970
Item # 401PFP02A
A rare, fascinating and incredibly relevant tuckaway bar cabinet designed by Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron circa 1970, it is exquisitely crafted from solid European oak that is lightly brushed to raise the grain and retains an early waxy finish.
The upright post is lighted with a lamp fixture at the top ready to receive the shade of your choice while wire is set in a channel in the back of the post so that it remains mostly hidden by the wall. It is designed to be screwed into the wall with two bolts, these covered with oak dowels (one missing), but the cabinet can still be removed from the upright by withdrawing two large dowels.
The bar cabinet is designed to present as a simple naturalistic facade with horizontal set planks embellished with a simple bevelled reveal from the upper planks to the inner planks of oak. The top of the cabinet is inset to receive three ceramic tiles so that drinks can be prepared and set upon the top. Once the cabinet is swung open, you can prepare drinks easily with two shelves in the upper for glasses and accessories while the tiled surface at the bottom can hold the liquids.
It is was produced by the firm Votre Maison ("Your Home") owned by Guillerme and Chambron together with master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq.
An incredibly fun and compelling form that is easily lived with and that, most importantly, remains in fine original condition.
Measurements: 58 3/4" H to highest point of the lamp; 39 1/4" H to highest point of the bar; 11 1/2" D x 29 1/2" W
Condition Report:
Very minor surface wear, presents beautifully; no lamp shade present; original wiring for European outlets - we can have this rewired upon request; minor white marks/scuffs/blemishes. Missing one oak...
