About the Item

A French Louis XV period fruitwood armoire from the first half of the 18th century, with bonnet top, raised panel doors, scalloped skirt and scrolled feet. Born in the middle of King Louis XV's reign, this exquisite French fruitwood armoire features a molded bonnet-shaped cornice, overhanging two doors. Following the lovely arched movement of the top, each door is adorned with three raised panels of variating sizes. A central vertical panel, accented with delicate voluted cartouches, visually separates the two sides. The doors open to reveal multiple inner shelves lined with fabric. The side posts and side panels echo this décor, thus creating a harmonious feel on the ensemble. The armoire is raised on four short scrolled feet, connected to one another through a voluted skirt. We are undeniably witnessing the triumph of the curve that was so popular under the reign of the 'Bien Aimé'. With its graceful lines, imposing proportions and wonderful patina, this French Louis XV fruitwood armoire circa 1740 will bring a stately presence to any home, whether placed in a bedroom, living room or office.
