About the Item
On offer is a beautiful quality, two-door, bow fronted mahogany wardrobe/armoire with the top having a dentil cornice over doors with oval flame mahogany veneered inlaid panels. The lower portion has a single drawer, all raised on downturned bracketed feet.
This piece is very much in the style of Robert Strahan (d. 1850), a prominent Irish cabinet maker and the founder in 1776 of Robert Strahan
Co. One of Dublin's most prestigious, this furniture firm supplied major Irish country houses and exhibited in London during the 18th and 19th centuries. The company remained family-run across generations, which included his son Robert and grandson Robert W. Strahan, finally closing in 1969.
