About the Item

A French provincial armoire or hall cupboard from the late 18th century. Transition period. Solid cherry and oak wood. An authentic example of French provincial living culture and furniture art of the late 18th century. Two-door, side-moulded cabinet body in gallery construction with gently flowing, slightly curved contours. The front is made of solid cherry wood, the body behind it of oak. Rounded fluted pilaster strips at the corners and a curved plinth frame end in angled, slightly S-shaped feet. The doors consist of moulded frames and large panels curved at the top. The upper end is formed by the overlying moulded cornice. The rear wall is solidly constructed with frames and panels. Original large external iron hinges and fittings. Inside, the wardrobe is fitted with a clothes rail and a shelf. Dimensions Height: 206 cm / 81.1 inch. Width: 126 cm or 141 cm / 49.6 inch or 55.51 inch. Depth: 56 cm or 63 cm / 22.04 inch or 24.8 inch. Depth inside: 49 cm / 19.29 inch. Ready for everyday use condition with age-related signs of use including slight scratches, old woodworm channels (not active!) and signs of wear on the front left foot. The doors have warped over the decades, but can now be closed again with a little pressure. The shelf has been replaced.
