Antique early 18th Century German Baroque Stripped Oak Two-Door Wardrobe Cabinet
Located in Casteren, NL
This antique oak cabinet was crafted in the early 20th century in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia around 1720. The cabinet was entirely built from the finest quality European summer oak. It features two doors and is richly adorned with molding in geometric patterns. The wooden molding was attached to the oanels by the use of pegs. The doors showcase a floral maple inlay. They retain their original hinges, while the lock has been replaced. Inside, on the right-hand side, there are two and a half fixed shelves, and on the left-hand side, there is a hanging section. This cabinet was made from the most exquisite wood available at the time, beautiful European summer oak, displaying a distinctive flame pattern. Due to its age, the wood has acquired a rich, dark patina. The cabinet has been recently cleaned. Like many German oak cabinets...

Early 18th Century Walnut and Olive Wood Armoire from Eastern France
Located in Dallas, TX
This unique armoire from the early 1700’s was made from walnut and olive wood and features a plinth base with central cherub mascaron along the crown. At just under 86 inches tall and 78 wide at the crown, this armoire has a more manageable size, compared to many of the very large armoires of the same period. The unique construction allows it to be easily disassembled for transport.
At one point, this walnut and olive wood armoire was the property of a chocoladefabriek (chocolate factory) in Strasbourg, located in the region of Alsace, near the German border. It was originally one armoire in a pair that were commissioned in Eastern France in the early 1700s. The ebeniste who created the armoire decided to use olive wood for the door panels and some of the side panels. Olive wood was a highly valued wood among wood workers of the 18th century because of its pretty color and the richness and nuances of its veining.
In the center of the crown is a foliate and floral ring surrounding a cherub mascaron. The crown and the top of the door frames have both been carved in an arch, mirroring the shape of the door moldings. Each door is mounted on iron hinges and separated by recessed molding into three uniquely shaped panels of olive wood (the rest of the armoire is constructed with walnut). Both upper panels of the doors are adorned with a series of undulating C-scrolls, while the bottom panels are rectangles with concave tops. The two sections are separated by a simple ovate center panel.
Armoires date back the 17th century when French menuisiers created the storage cabinet to house clothing. Early armoires such as this one were without feet (plinth style base) and were often seen in paneled boiserie...

Early 18th Century French Louis XIV Régence Trellis Marquetry Armoire Wardrobe
By Etienne Doirat
Located in Berlin, DE
Early 18th Century French Louis XIV / Régence Marquetry Armoire or Wardrobe
The rectangular Louis XIV Régence armoire or wardrobe with rounded corners standing on a short base with bracket feet and curved apron with gilt-bronze Apollo head mount; the two doors can be opened by a Pasquil lock to reveal the inside with four removable shelves. The doors decorated with gilt-bronze framed rectangular cartouches displaying elaborate trellis pattern marquetry and gilt-bronze paterea mounts at the corners; the inner sides of the doors each with a large marqueted rhomb motif; the sides of the armoire with quatre-foil mirrored marquetry. Rich gilt-bronze banding, the upper corners and the bracket feet at the front with Louis XIV style gilt- bronze foliage appliques.
Although this exceptional Louis XIV / Régence armoire or wardrobe does not bear a stamp (stamping furniture only became commonplace after 1745), its shape, its quality of manufacture and its luxurious yet well-balanced use of Louis XIV/Régence gilt-bronze mounts on an elaborate geometrical marquetry all lead to the workshop of the important cabinet maker Etienne Doirat (1675-1732).
Étienne Doirat came from a family of cabinet makers that had been established in Paris from the beginning of the 1600s. Doirat only began to stamp his furniture at the end of his career, and accordingly only few pieces bear his stamp and can serve as comparison pieces for newly discovered pieces of furniture. He constructed various furniture forms, including commodes, armoires, corner cupboards, and tables, often veneered with simple marquetry in exotic woods. Although he did not do the casting, chasing and gilding, Doirat tried to keep exclusive control over the models for his bronze furniture mounts...

An early George I Clothes Press Circa 1724
Located in Flower Mound, TX
AN EARLY OAK CLOTHES PRESS, BEARING THE DATE 1724
Carved into the frieze ‘EBB 1724’.
Condition Report: This appears to have had some adaptions over the years, there is a hanging rail fitted to the interior, shelves have probably been removed to accommodate various fittings over the years – there is no base to the upper section, and the top pair of drawers are dummies. The lower two drawers are functional, these have had repairs to the their baseboards at some point. One has the original lock, and the other is missing. The cupboard doors have an old lock, but there are no keys. All elements are open.
On the whole a very sound piece of high quality early 18th century furniture.
Provenance: The Fulwood Collection.
The Fulwood Collection comes from a Grade II listed rectory in the North of England. Formerly the childhood home of Sir Douglas Bader...

Oak French Armoire Spectacular 300-Year Old Completely Unrestored Cerused Finish
Located in BENSENVILLE, IL
Spectacular is probably an understatement for this completely unrestored antique French armoire, that someone had the genius idea to ceruse the armoire eons ago. This type of finish known are ceruse dates all the way back to the 16th century and created with a lead based white-pigment. The finest pigments were used as a skin whitener and were imported from Venice. We are not sure what was used on our antique French armoire however, it was done so long ago that all the edges and corners of our antique French armoire are darken from the natural oils of your hands. We no longer go out and actively seek French armoires since the invention of the flat TV, but this is a horse of a different color. In the last 30-years of importing antique French armoires, this has to be one of our top three favorite armoires and not only is it the antique cerused...
