About the Item

Monolithic in stance yet intricate in surface, this tall French cabinet reveals a façade of concentric rosettes and squared panels, arranged with the solemn rhythm of a liturgical object. The carving is architectural in spirit—recessed, symmetrical, and grounded in the visual logic of repetition and relief. Attributed to a provincial French workshop in the tradition of Gothic Revival and regional vernacular carpentry. Crafted in the 20th century, this cabinet revives decorative vocabularies from the French late-Gothic and Renaissance traditions, where cabinetry was both utilitarian and emblematic. The front panels are defined by bullseye rosettes—classic motifs of ecclesiastical woodwork—reinterpreted here through the lens of rustic modernity. Fashioned from solid oak, the cabinet exhibits a muted grain and a softly brushed surface, its silvery hue a result of gentle lime-washing and decades of natural aging. The oak’s density lends the piece structural clarity, while the hand-carved detailing imparts depth and shadow. A single drawer at center is fitted with a wrought iron handle; flanking doors retain their original iron latchwork—modest in design, yet deliberate in placement. Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina. With its vertical posture and graphic carvings, this cabinet brings architectural gravitas to any space—part sculpture, part reliquary—resonant with memory and craft. Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.

Petite Armoire with Diamond-Relief Panels in Oak, France
Located in Split, Splitsko-dalmatinska županija
Slender and architectural, this petite armoire stands with the poise of a column—narrow in stance, yet rich in detail. Its twin doors are carved in sharp diamond-point relief, each facet catching shadow like folded linen or cut stone. The central drawer is chamfered into a prismatic silhouette, echoing the geometries above and below with quiet symmetry. All is held within a frame of softened oak, timeworn to a parchment hue. Attributed to a provincial workshop in the tradition of Art Populaire, the piece reflects a postwar reverence for material integrity and craft discipline. The geometric motifs—reminiscent of Gothic tracery or early Renaissance coffered...
