About the Item

Wardrobe with writing desk, birch, maple, fabric, glass, brass, coated steel, Italy, 1950s Hailing from a skilled artisan of Italy, this exceptional set embodies a unique combination of a wardrobe and writing desk, reflecting the design principles of the Mid-Century era that rose to prominence in the 1950s. The design serves as a testament to the designer's superb discernment in creating aesthetically pleasing forms and harmonic compositions. Organically sculpted bases with sinuous lines and round finishes were popular among artists in the fifties, including Carlo De Carli (1910-1999), Mario Gottardi (1913-2004), Ico e Luisa Parisi (1916-1996), Silvio Cavatorta (1899-1957), Paolo Buffa (1903-1970), Carlo Mollino (1905-1973), and Gio Ponti (1891-1979), to name a few. The door panels are exquisitely crafted with horizontally carved lines adorned with floral and fauna fabric in certain parts, accentuating the refined elegance this item exhibits. In addition, the design comprises three distinct sections, each of which offers specific storage features. The left segment embodies a wardrobe that incorporates a clothing rack and eight glass drawers executed in a delightful array of colors, including blue, yellow, white, red, green, pink, and brown. Located within the middle section of the unit is a compartment that can be accessed through a drop-down panel. This compartment offers a diverse range of storage facilities, providing ample space to organize various items. Additionally, attached to the shelf is a writing desk, featuring a small storage compartment with drawers that is ideal for storing stationary or other small items. On the right, we encounter another wardrobe with a clothing rack. Presumably, this grand unit has been custom-made for an Italian family. Given its uniqueness and distinctive characteristics, this piece holds immense value and rarity in the realm of furniture design. Please note that this item is in fair condition.
