About the Item

This 18th century piece of furniture, made of fir and with a central separation, is typical of the wardrobes known as "du Ried" (region around Sélestat in Bas-Rhin) and Colmar (Haut-Rhin). Among modest people, there was a single-leaf wardrobe, while in wealthy circles, wardrobes had 2 doors. The joinery is worked with Louis XIV panels on several levels and moldings. The sides are cut with rough grooves. Flutes are also visible on the facade. The cornice is flat but large and well molded. The assembly is done by keys located on the top and bottom of the cabinet which allowed transport. The fittings, typical of Alsace, are made of Hand forged “pig tail”.
