About the Item

A very good quality Late Regency Period rosewood circular occasional table of unusual design, possibly originally designed for storage of wool, having two well figured circular tiers with elegant spindle turned galleries united by turned central column terminating on triform base with original turned feet. This charming little 19th century occasional table is of a very unusual design, with the two well figured tiers acting as both table tops and baskets. We have occasionally seen tables of similar design to this previously and the basket effect is sometimes believed to have been designed for the storage of wool whilst knitting.  Constructed from good quality and well figured rosewood veneers the table retains a good rich color and would make a very useful little wine table, or even lamp table indeed. It has real elegance and has clearly been well loves and looked after throughout the near 200 years of its life. From a practical perspective it is also very solid and sturdy.  As with all of the items we offer for sale this little table has been examined and naturally waxed in the traditional manner by our highly skilled restorers to ensure it is presented for sale in a condition which allows it to be placed straight into the home.  Circa 1830.  Measures: Height 29.5in. Diameter (Top Tier) 9in.  Diameter (Bottom Tier) 17in. 19th Century Amboyna Occasional Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A delightful 19th century occasional lamp, or wine table, with well figured amboyna circular top and ormolu moulding raised on three elegant ebonized and inlaid turned supports, terminating with triform plateau and elegant sabre feet. Although victorian in date this table draws on a variety of different stylistic features, from a range of different periods. The use of beautiful amboyna veneers, set against ebonised mouldings is very much a 19th century feature however, the contrast created providing both a boldness and elegance all in one. This little occasional table is constructed from excellent timbers and when taking into account the overall quality of construction as well it is clear that it was produced in one of the top cabinet makers workshops of the time. Surprisingly sturdy for such a small article, which is due to the intelligent triple support design, this is a most practical table indeed, perfect for a wide variety of spots around the home, where one can use it to house a lamp, some photo frames or even a nice glass of wine. It is a great size and should fit elegantly into just about spot desired. Overall the condition is good and as with all items which we offer for sale it has received a natural wax polish by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture...
