About the Item

A rare, charming, and most unusual three tier bamboo dessert server or tea table. Dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, likely English, executed in period late Victorian exotic far-east orientalist inspired Aestheticism styling. Embodying the Aesthetic Movements "art for art's sake" ethos, having an octagonal shaped black lacquered top and square central lower tier, framed in oxblood red stained bamboo, featuring four folding panel side drop shelves used for serving, all rising on elegant curved legs. circa 1890 Dimensions: (approx) Open: 25.75" High, 30" Wide, 30" Deep Closed: 25.75" High, 21" Wide, 21" Deep Ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a side table, coffee table, cocktail drinks or plant stand, low etagage - whatnot display, unique bedside nightstand, bar cart, with room for approximately nine wine bottles in the center, sculptural occasional table, and more Great shape overall, especially considering age. Strong, sturdy and structurally sound, with highly desirable patina. Wear and tear consistent with age and indicative of use, including minor scuffs, scratches and scattered imperfections. Nothing that detracts from the display or functionality, but only adds to the antique character and elegant warmth.
