About the Item
A fine pair of George III period mahogany demilune card tables with provenance
Of Sheraton style, these fine tables were made c.1800 and employ fine cuts of top quality mahogany. They are of demilune, semi-circular, form, a style made popular by the likes of Robert Adam during the neoclassical period in furniture design in England. These tables have contrasting stringing around the tops and below the frieze but are otherwise not inlaid or carved, they rely for their visual impact on the high quality veneers used with the timber grain patterns being extremely attractive and rendering any further decoration unnecessary. The tops are supported on gateleg actions and they have baize lined interiors, all raised on square topping legs with spade feet.
Pairs of card tables are always sought-after by collectors and decorators alike and these are particularly interesting because they were removed from a fine period property in Hampshire, Dumpford Manor House. Circa 1800.
