About the Item

18th Century, French Louis XV Wood Centre Table The elegant and small Louis XV coffee table, made in France around the middle of the eighteenth century, is paved with precious wood, characterized by a color in which dark red alternates with purple streaks, allowing the cabinetmaker to create particular chromatic games through the specular positioning of the mirrors according to the grain of the wood. In addition, the inlays on the top and sides create very refined geometric decorations. The piece of furniture has a sinuous line accentuated by the four curved and moved legs, with rounded corners at 45 degrees. On the right side there is a drawer while on the front there is a lock with key and nozzle in gilded and chiselled bronze. Thanks to the lock, it is possible to open the drop-down table, of quadrangular shape with a slightly wavy profile. Inside there is a slabbed in carob wood. A second table top is positioned slightly lower and is installed at the height of the curvature of the legs, giving harmony and stability. The tips of the four feet are in gilded bronze and finely chiselled and further embellish the table, also bringing brightness. This small table is particularly decorative and valuable for the type of slabbing. It can be attached to a wall or, thanks to its finish on all four sides, it can be placed in the middle of a room, in a living room or in a study, next to armchairs and sofas.
