About the Item

Center table hand/made in central Italy in the early 1700s using walnut. This table is a show stopper, not only because of its beautiful color and patina, but also because of its very unique conformation. In fact, the table is made to be folded and the iron cross stretchers can be unhooked to allow the folding of the legs. The table shows beautifully carved barley twist lyre legs connected with hand-wrought cross stretcher, giving it beautiful curvy, elegant lines. The top is made of two large and thick walnut boards with breadboards on each end. On the top one can see the square nails holding the hooks for the legs as well as the nails holding the stretcher. Below the top, on the inside of the stretcher we can see the old hinges that allow the folding of the legs. The top shows some signs of usage, which is expected on a piece this old that was most likely used in a kitchen; a couple of repairs can also be seen on one end (pictured). Overall this is a gorgeous table, with a lot of character and an absolutely stunning color. Its relatively small size make it perfect for many different spots in a home, therefore, this is a piece that will follow you wherever you may move next because there will always be a place for it.
