About the Item

Two Louis XVI center tables in veneered wood, marble top and gilded bronze finishes, France, second half of the 18th century Measurements: left side table: cm L 49 x P 35 x H 65; right side table: cm L 42 x P 34 x H 66 These two coffee tables or nightstands, were made in France in the Louis XVI era, in the second half of the eighteenth century. Their structure is paved with the use of precious woods. Although differing in some details, the two coffee tables have the same architecture, with rectangular marble top, under-top band with drawer and lock in chiselled and gilded bronze and a second lower floor. The four legs with square section have in the corners square articulation elements and end with truncated feet of inverted pyramid. The right side table is profiled by a railing in gilded bronze and the four feet are embellished with golden bronze tips. The wise use of different wood species with characteristic veins and shades creates accurate color games, reserves and frames, making these two cabinets very decorative and elegant. The two coffee tables are finished on all four sides allowing them possibly to be placed in the middle of a room. Difficult to find similar proportions and design, but pleasing in their small variations, are also suitable to be used as bedside tables giving the room a more modern furniture while retaining grace and refinement.
