This impressive and generously proportioned early Viennese Biedermeier table was crafted in Vienna circa 1825 and exemplifies the highest achievements of authentic Biedermeier furniture from its formative period.
Early Viennese Biedermeier is renowned for its clarity of form, perfectly judged proportions, and uncompromising craftsmanship. Furniture of this caliber and scale is exceedingly rare, and large early examples such as this table are almost never encountered. These works laid the foundation for modern design principles and remain strikingly relevant and desirable nearly two centuries later.
The table presents a strong yet elegant sculptural presence. Its substantial circular top is supported by a finely modeled vase-shaped central pedestal, which transitions gracefully into a well-balanced and expertly crafted base. The overall form is architectural, harmonious, and timeless, conveying both refinement and quiet strength.
The tabletop is veneered in exceptional walnut, masterfully book-matched to form a dramatic starburst pattern. The surface is finished with a traditional hand-applied French polish, revealing a deep amber tone and a beautifully matured, original patina developed over nearly 200 years. The piece has been meticulously restored in our Viennese workshop using strictly period-appropriate conservation techniques.
