Extraordinary modular coffee table designed by Bernard Vuarnesson for the Italian company Bellato in the 1980s. The "Hexa" model is distinguished by the compositional elegance and extraordinary engineering of its sliding panels, which can radically transform the usable surface area through a simple gesture.
The solid wood frame with an open-pore satin-black painted finish accommodates four laminate-covered sliding tops: two white and two red, which can be combined in various geometric configurations. The mechanism is entirely wooden, made with such precision that no metal components are required. The notches are perfect, allowing smooth, quiet and continuous movement. A true masterpiece in functional design.
In excellent vintage condition, with slight signs of age consistent with age and use. Fully functional mechanism, well-preserved surfaces.
Variable footprint depending on panel opening.
Designer - Bernard Vuarnesson
Born in France in 1935, Bernard Vuarnesson trained as a wood engineer at the École Supérieure du Bois in Paris, continuing his studies at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers. Starting in the 1970s he collaborated with Ariane Vuarnesson, founding the creative workshop "Sculptures-Jeux." His work is distinguished by its ability to combine aesthetics, precision engineering and transformable functionality. His furniture is now exhibited and treated by leading international gallery owners.
Producer - Bellato (Italy)
Founded in Italy in the second half of the twentieth century, Bellato distinguished itself by producing experimental design furniture, collaborating with some of Europe's most innovative designers. The company first supported Bernard Vuarnesson's "Sculptures-Jeux" project and became its first publisher. Bellato contributed to the international popularity of these modular coffee tables, which have now become true icons of 1980s design.
