Vienna Secession Center Tables

VIENNA SECESSION STYLE WIENER WERKSTÄTTE

At the turn of the 20th century, Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann and several of their peers separated from the predominant Association of Austrian Artists to form a new professional union, the Vienna Secession.

The artists’ intent to break free from classical traditions in fine art evolved to encompass applied arts and interior design as well: In 1903, Hoffmann and Koloman Moser founded the Wiener Werkstätte, or "Viennese Workshop," to produce progressive furniture, ceramics, glass and textiles.

This talented collective of Austrian artists, architects and designers most famously created works in the Jugendstil style — the German branch of Western Europe's popular Art Nouveau. Jugendstil is associated with dynamic, rhythmic forms and undulating lines.

On 1stDibs, discover the sophisticated Vienna Secession furniture, art and decorative objects — ranging from watercolor paintings and prints to serveware and seating — that transformed Austria over one hundred years ago and maintain timeless appeal today.

Biedermeier 19th Century Cherrywood Dining Table/ Center Table, Austria ca. 1830
Located in Lichtenberg, AT
Charming round Biedermeier dining/ center table from the renowed period in Austria around 1830. A wonderful handcrafted 19th century so-called "vase table" standing on an artfully designed, bulbous cherry veneered base. The absolutely amazing looking round table plate impresses with fine mirrormatched cherrywood which builds an outstanding pattern. An around 2" inch wide nutwood veneered frame on the outside, adorned by additional inlayed maple thread builds the perfect contrast. The highlight of this remarkable Biedermeier table is the inlay work in the center: an ebonized round field with a lovely floral design and the German words taken from the Lord´s Prayer: "unser tegliches Brot gib uns heute" - meaning: "give us this day our daily bread...

Round Wood and Bronze Table in White Oak Winston Coffee Table by Alabama Sawyer
Located in Birmingham, AL
Inspired by Japanese shou sugi ban finishes, that we use on our hyo table and beam bench. We developed our own hardware to enhance the beauty and function to start a new lineage of work. A recent collaboration with resident Birmingham metal artists, along with our bounty of unique lumber from the local urban forest, imbues this round wood and bronze table with a richness and tactile pleasure. White oak from the urban forest has interesting grain and a warm hue for a modern living room or sitting area. A full 48" in diameter provides plenty of surface area. This piece works for a luxe, residential living room or indoor sitting area. Urban wood species like walnut and sweet gum, as well as square and rectangular designs work with these unique bronze features and monolithic table...
