New finds from Naya (the barn) in Ibaraki pref., Japan.
Antique wooden mortar, "Usu" in Japanese, made of quality Keyaki (Japanese Zelkova) hardwood.
Hand-carved, Manufactured circa 1890s-1920s late Meiji, Taisho to early Showa period, estimate from the condition.
This is relatively smaller / slimmer than common Japanese mortar, suitable for the side table or coffee table, also can be used as stool - the curve on top would fit when seating.
It's solid
durable enough for actual use.
