About the Item

Belgium / 1957 / 2 Coffee table / model 210 “bar” / Alfred Hendrickx / Belform / teak wood, ceramics / Vintage / Mid-century Two vintage bar or cocktail tables designed by Alfred Hendrickx for Belform in 1957. These tables have a partly solid and partly veneer teak wooden frame with black leg structure and sycomore slats. These tables both have an unique ceramic tile top on a sliding panel with storage compartment underneath for magazines or drinks. The removable tray with ceramic tiles can slide from left to right. The table on the left has an abstract composition of a female in vibrant blue colours was designed by the Belgian artist Willy Meysmans. In 1958 he created a monumental work of art in ceramics for the Belgian pavilion at the World Exhibition in Brussels. He also made several other works of art in ceramics for private and public buildings. The ceramic tiled tray of the right table was designed by the Belgian ceramist Theo Melens, who can be seen as an important artist in Belgian ceramics. At the world exhibition in 1958, Melens showed his work in three different pavilions. Melens designed ceramic figures for Belform from 1957 till 1958, all limited and piece-uniques.
