About the Item
Coffee table from France in the Art Deco style. This table is entirely veneered with mirror and features striking eglomized detail throughout. Eglomise is a French term for a technique that applies decoration and gilding to the back of glass to create a beautiful pattern and mirror finish on the front. The pattern on this table showcases forms of foliage across the top and on the legs. This includes golden toned maple leaves. The mirror veneer is trimmed with gold leafing. The top mirror is beveled for an added elegant touch. The table is rectangular with cut corners. It is supported by four square legs. We love the combination of clean Art Deco lines with the hand-crafted artistic detail throughout the mirror. Professional restoration has been done to the mirror. It is in excellent vintage condition – the photos accurately depict the condition.
Symbolizing a time of great change worldwide, Art Deco, short for Arts Décoratifs, is often synonymous with bold, geometric architecture and luxurious, extravagant graphics as well as rich colors and decadent detail work. Ultimately, the Art Deco style is a pastiche of many styles, all coming together in a desire for modernism. Spanning from the beginning of World War I to the beginning of World War II, the style affected design, both commercial and independent, on a massive scale and continues to be seen in fashion, jewelry, and furniture today. There were many influences, from the geometric forms of Cubism, bright colors of Fauvism, the craftsmanship of Louis XVI, and the exotic influences of Asian and Egyptian art.
