About the Item
This distinctive round ceramic coffee table is a strong example of European ceramic design from the mid-20th century. The tabletop is composed of hand-formed ceramic sections arranged in a radial composition, each panel decorated with a sculptural stylized fish in vivid red and orange tones. The fish are set against a blue glazed ground with pronounced craquelure, a natural and highly appreciated characteristic of ceramic glazing techniques from this period.
At the center of the design, a pale green hexagonal medallion creates a visual anchor and enhances the sense of movement across the surface. The fish motif reflects Mediterranean ceramic traditions and symbolizes vitality, abundance, and fluid motion, themes frequently explored in Italian and Southern French ceramics of the time.
The ceramic top is supported by a restrained black metal base, intentionally understated to allow the decorative surface to remain the focal point.
