About the Item

The OBJ collection is based on simple gestures applied to materials in their commercial format. Through manipulations such as cuts and folds, raw materials are transformed into objects. Without the use of references and preliminary research stages during the creative process, Manu's approach to design is intuitive. He enjoys drawing simple lines and sketching ideas in multiple notebooks, and over time, some of these sketches are turned into physical objects. Despite the OBJ series seeking an ambitious aesthetic and prioritizing beauty over function, these objects ultimately find their place at home, aiming to fulfill a specific function. At a glance, OBJ-01 reveals its essence, showcasing its material, manufacturing process, and function. Crafted from a raw metal sheet, whether steel, stainless steel, or brass, precisely cut by laser and meticulously assembled by hand with a rubber hammer, OBJ-01 has no welds. Its dimensions conform to the modulation and format dictated by the material's commercial standards. The object takes shape through pure geometric figures: a rectangle, a circle, and a cylinder at the back housing the LED light source. The circle, once cut, assumes the function of a screen and can rotate 360 degrees to direct the light as desired. Starting from a comprehensible gesture, OBJ-01 is a monomaterial piece that requires no elaborate explanation. Born in Valencia, Spain, in 1990, he studied Design Engineering at UCH CEU University in Valencia and completed a master's degree in Furniture and Lighting in 2012. After his academic journey, Manu joined Magnus Long Studio in London, contributing to projects for Central Saint Martins University. In 2013, he embarked on a creative journey to Mexico City, where he currently resides and passionately continues his endeavors. His work has stood out in prestigious design fairs such as Design Miami/Basel, Salone Satellite in Milan, Maison&Objet in Paris, Brafa in Brussels, DNA Art Fair in China, and Zona Maco in Mexico. Manu's contributions to the field have earned him recognitions, including the Interior Design Magazine's Best of Year Award, the A Design Award, and the IF Design Award. In 2016, Manu Bañó, alongside Héctor Esrawe and Age Salajoe, co-founded EWE Studio. As the design director, Manu plays a crucial role in the ongoing global expansion of the renowned firm in the collectible design world. Manu is internationally acclaimed for his minimalist approach primarily focused on metalwork. His designs, especially in copper, brass, and steel, demonstrate a profound respect for the integrity of the material. His work not only embodies functionality but also serves as a testament to the beauty of artisanal processes, blending tradition with contemporary design.

Contemporary with dynamite exploded Lose control steel
Located in 1204, CH
One-of-a-kind Sideboard. The object is made from a Metal Volume that has been spontaneously shaped by an explosion, and hand treated to reach a soft touch. Part of a series of three furniture pieces, Metal Volumes have been exploded at various energy levels in a sequence of crafted detonations. These elements have been treated to reach a completely unique aesthetic and feel. The process and the inherent uncertainty of the outcome is a defining element of the work. The production of the explosions takes place in the Portuguese countryside with a team of explosive ordnance experts, and has been recorded into a film directed by Frederico Velez. “We are not able to control anything but our attitude regarding life, and even that is at some point uncontrollable. Lose Control is a liberation of energy, a constructive loss of control”. Born in Romania in 1986, Mircea Anghel...
