This piece is a conversation of two materials. The curves of the steel are a response to the circumference of the circle of marble. The steel simultaneously mirroring and rejecting the marble’s form—steel jutting towards and away from the marble. At moments surrounding and supporting and other moments pushing against and away from the marble’s surface.
The composition of the steel can also be understood as a moment of action frozen in time—a tightly wound spool of string beginning to unravel.
This work proposes the idea of sculpture as furniture.
