Brazilian design at its best!
This marvellous coffeetable was designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli in the 1950's and crafted in solid Caviuna wood. The tabletop is oval and framed in wood, with a central glass panel. The frame is supported by three sculptural legs that curve inward and meet at the joints, creating an organic structure with open triangular cutouts. The legs extend gracefully to the floor, showcasing smooth, contoured shapes. The craftsmanship highlights the natural grain and color of the Caviuna wood, while the minimalist design emphasizes the piece’s fluid lines and balance. The table’s design merges functionality with a sculptural form, characteristic of Scapinelli’s mid-century modern style
Giuseppe Scapinelli was an Italian-born designer and architect who became a prominent figure in Brazilian mid-century modern design. Born in 1891, he moved to Brazil in the 1950s, where he developed a unique style blending Italian craftsmanship with Brazilian influences. Scapinelli’s work often featured organic shapes, bold curves, and rich native woods like Caviuna, showcasing his eye for sculptural aesthetics. He created furniture, interiors, and architectural projects that embraced fluid lines and a playful approach to form. His pieces remain sought after for their artistic quality and distinctive style, reflecting the dynamic mid-century Brazilian design movement.
