About the Item

Important Brutalist coffee table constructed of iron, brass and slate. The table features a swirled metal base, which supports the hand sculpted palette form slate surface. This piece is in very good, original condition showing only light cosmetic wear, normal and consistent with age, it bears the markers name and date ( Ficalora 1981 ) cast into the base, as shown. One of a kind piece, of museum quality design and workmanship, probably a custom made piece for a wealthy and discerning client. Total H 22" x H of Table Surface 14.75" x W 51.5" x D 30" Michael Ficalora is a well respected artist, know for his work in many fields, including custom commissions for public landmarks, jewelry, lighting, and of course furniture. His earlier years include work as an apprentice with Albert Paley, helping create the iconic metal gates to the New York State Senate Chambers in Albany NY ( 1979 ). In addition to his work with Paley, he also apprenticed with the renown jewelry designer Hans Christensen. A simple web search will reveal a resume as impressive as the table.
