About the Item

This Japanese low table was crafted in the Taisho Era (1912–1926) with a keyaki (Japanese zelkova) base and a katsura wood top. The combination of these two traditional hardwoods creates a quiet yet refined presence—katsura offering smooth warmth on the surface, and keyaki providing strength and visual character through its beautifully turned legs. The table stands low to the ground, reflecting Japan’s floor-centered lifestyle of the period, designed to be used with tatami and zabuton cushions. Today, it works not only as a low table but also as a display platform for ceramics, ikebana vessels, books, or art objects. Its proportions make it easy to style in both Japanese and modern interiors. Over the decades, the surface has developed a natural patina along with small scratches, dents, and marks that speak to long-term use. These details, together with the sturdy turned keyaki legs, contribute to the table’s wabi-sabi character. The structure remains solid and stable, with no wobble or functional issues. Condition Notes: - Structure is sound and stable with no wobble - Katsura wood top shows age-related wear including minor scratches, dents, and small marks - Turned keyaki (zelkova) legs are solid, stable, and securely attached - Wood surface shows natural aging consistent with long-term use - No structural problems; fully functional for daily use or display Cleaned and disinfected with a non-toxic solution. As an authentic Taisho-era piece, this table shows natural signs of age inherent to Japanese vintage furniture. Characteristics such as surface wear, small marks, and the softly aged wood patina are reflections of its history and authenticity, not defects.
