About the Item
This is an antique Japanese coffee table in a primitive style.
It is believed to have been crafted in the Meiji period (1860s–1900s), and even after more than a century, it retains a strong, almost living presence that is deeply compelling. The piece is made from a large block of zelkova (keyaki), and its powerful form—carved boldly from a single piece of wood—captures the raw, original essence of the material itself.
The most striking feature of this table is the bold hand-axe marks that remain across the entire surface. Each facet is carved with a different rhythm, intentionally leaving a rough, unrefined texture rather than aiming for uniform perfection. These marks convey the wild character of the wood and the palpable presence of the craftsman who shaped it long ago. Depending on the angle of the light, the shadows shift dramatically, allowing the piece to assert itself within a space like a sculpture.
Its deep, dark color reveals the richness and depth unique to aged wood. The fine cracks and subtle variations on the surface are the natural result of time, expressing an authentic beauty that cannot be artificially reproduced. The work embodies both raw intensity and quiet stillness—qualities that perfectly reflect the Japanese spirit of wabi-sabi.
This piece is highly versatile: it functions beautifully as a coffee table, a display stand for sculptures or objects, or as a striking side table with strong presence. Wherever it is placed, it creates a distinct sense of tension and silence in its surroundings, functioning as a rare piece of furniture that also serves as an art object.

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
