About the Item

Dated to the late 19th century, this small painted cabinet is a lovely example of Tibetan folk artistry. The low chest has an overhung top and inset paneled sides, each carved with concentric borders and hand-painted with intricate floral patterns. Now faded from time, the painted designs are brushed in a subdued palette of golden yellow, green and orange and a layer of cinnabar-red lacquer brightens the tabletop. The colorful chest has a low stature ideal as a coffee table or nightstand and opens to an interior compartment by the back right panel, configured as a sliding door.
