About the Item
This modular oval form coffee table was created in French design house Maison Baguès during the mid-20th century. Known for their decorative lighting and metalwork, Maison Baguès specialized in gilt bronze furnishings with a focus on organic motifs and mirrored surfaces. This table features a tripartite design comprising a rectangular central section flanked by two demilune ends, allowing it to function either as a single elongated table or as individual components. The bronze frame is finished in a rich gilt surface consistent with Maison Baguès’ style production techniques and aesthetic.
The table is constructed with a mirrored top set into a gilt bronze frame. The rectangular center is supported by four double legs, while each demilune is fitted with three individual legs. The bronze frames display a repeated foliate motif in low relief, running continuously along the frieze and leg surfaces. The mirror tops are lightly antiqued, contributing texture while remaining structurally even across all three sections. The table can be used as a cohesive piece or separated into individual tables, including use as a pair of demilune consoles and a square center table.
Maison Baguès, active in Paris from the late 19th century through the 20th, is recognized for its use of hand-cast gilt bronze and mirrored surfaces.
