About the Item

Pair of illuminated coffee tables by Joseph-André Motte (1925-2013) edited by Charron in 1958. White opaline glass diffuser, rosewood veneered structure and chrome-plated steel base. Biography Joseph-André Motte, France (1925-2013) French interior designer, Joseph-André Motte is one of the great figures of French design of the 50s and 60s. To find out more, read this Wikipedia link. Story With the advice of Louis Brulliard, editor-in-chief of Meubles et Décors, Georges Charron founded Groupe 4 with young designers René-Jean Caillette, Geneviève Dangles, Joseph-André Motte and Alain Richard. In 1953, a Groupe 4 store opened on rue Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in Paris, offering rational furniture for the modern home. Some of the furniture was innovative: hot-bent wood for a series designed by Joseph-André Motte from 1954, adjustable mirrors with indirect lighting for René-Jean Caillette’s dressing table. In the following decade, until its closure in 1972, Charron’s furniture became more luxurious, aimed at a wealthy clientele.
