About the Item

This exceptional Brutalist coffee table by Paul Evans, created as part of his celebrated Sculptured Metal Collection for Directional, exemplifies the raw artistry and architectural presence that define Evans’ most iconic work. The table is anchored by a powerful hand-welded steel base, richly patinated with deep bronze, blackened steel, and oxidized tones that highlight the intentional textures, seams, and sculptural irregularities inherent to the Brutalist aesthetic. Each vertical post and cross-brace reveals Evans’ mastery of controlled chaos, industrial materials transformed into functional art through meticulous craftsmanship. Topped with a circular glass surface, the table achieves a striking balance between visual weight and transparency, allowing the complex geometry of the base to remain fully visible from every angle. The glass top may be customized to suit individual preferences, including alternative diameters, thicknesses, or the option of stone in materials such as marble or travertine. For collectors and designers seeking a more avant-garde presentation, the base may also be displayed without a top as a freestanding sculptural object, underscoring its identity as a work of 20th-century American art rather than merely a piece of furniture. This Paul Evans coffee table offers a rare combination of durability, sculptural presence, and historical importance. Its solid metal construction makes it exceptionally resilient and well suited for high-traffic residential environments, households with children or pets, and demanding commercial interiors. At the same time, its rarity and provenance elevate it to a serious collector’s piece with long-term investment appeal. As interest in Brutalist design continues to grow, works by Paul Evans remain among the most sought-after, consistently commanding attention from collectors, curators, and design professionals worldwide. Ideal placement spans a wide range of interiors, from Mid-Century Modern, Brutalist, and Contemporary spaces to Industrial, Postmodern, and gallery-inspired environments. This table would feel equally at home anchoring a living room or lounge, defining a conversation area in a den or library, or serving as a dramatic focal point in a creative studio or executive office. Its strong architectural presence also makes it an outstanding choice for boutique hotels, members’ clubs, luxury retail spaces, cocktail lounges, and curated hospitality interiors. Whether used as a coffee table, cocktail table, low table, or sculptural centerpiece, this Paul Evans design delivers unmistakable impact, historical significance, and enduring visual power. MEASUREMENTS: H 15.25" x 24.5" Diameter (without glass) H 15.5" x 38" Diameter (with glass) CONDITION: Base in good vintage condition with light patina, age and wear. Some legs are angled slightly different than other legs. Glass has scratches along with other wear and some chips. While a new glass top would be ideal, you can save money by shipping the table base without the glass and get new glass made locally for a low cost and is usually a better option than shipping the old glass.
