About the Item

Rare Roger Capron coffee table featuring original Garrigue ceramic tiles set in a solid bent beechwood frame with elegant waterfall ends. A sculptural and highly collectible example of French modernist design from the 1960s. This exceptional coffee table was designed by Roger Capron in France during the 1960s and features his iconic “Garrigue” ceramic tiles, one of the most recognizable series of post-war French design. The tabletop is composed of hand-crafted ceramic tiles, each decorated with finely detailed botanical impressions. Using Capron’s signature technique, real plants and leaves were pressed into the clay; during firing, the organic material disintegrated, leaving a delicate and organic imprint. These motifs reference La Garrigue, the wild Mediterranean vegetation native to southeastern France, where Capron lived and worked for much of his career. What makes this table particularly special is its solid beechwood frame shaped in bentwood technique, featuring softly curved, continuous ends that create an elegant waterfall effect. Rather than a standard straight-edged top, the wood flows seamlessly downward, resulting in a sculptural, monolithic silhouette that is rarely seen within the Garrigue series. The warm tones of the bent beechwood frame complement the earthy ceramic tiles beautifully, while the architectural base provides excellent stability. This combination of refined woodworking and artisanal ceramic craftsmanship makes the table both visually striking and highly functional. A strong and authentic example of French modernist design, ideal for mid-century modern, brutalist, or contemporary interiors. Perfect for private collectors, interior designers, or high-end hospitality projects.
