Art Deco coffee table in walnut
black lacquer with hidden detail, France 1930s
At first glance, this Art Deco coffee table — equally at home as a couch table, occasional table or center table — captivates with its sculptural silhouette and impeccable contrast of materials. But there’s more to this piece than meets the eye.
Its round top, executed in hand-polished walnut, reveals a rich and subtle grain that radiates from the center like a calm ripple across still water. Framed by a circular lacquered ring in deep black, the upper tier measures 70 cm (27.6 in) in diameter. Below, a second walnut shelf offers additional surface space and echoes the upper tier’s elegance in both proportion and finish.
The entire composition rests on three striking, geometric legs, finished in a flawless black piano lacquer. With a total height of 60 cm (23.6 in) and a diameter of 84 cm (33.1 in), the table maintains a strong presence without ever overwhelming the space.
Yet it’s only upon closer inspection that its most surprising feature reveals itself — a hidden element that sets this 1930s French original apart.
