About the Item

Being a connoisseur of 18th century furniture, it was a thrill to find this pair, after years of hunting . A true pair of very hard to find Louis XV consoles de coin (corner consoles) sculpted during the 18th century. I had studied and seen such pieces in palaces and Fine antiquities reference books. These are especially lovely in both the richly carved Rococo sculpting of the wood, as well as the original Breche d'Alep marble tops , which was all but extinct by the end of the 18th century. Please note in the picture layout that we show the left one and its opposing right console in the same pose for the first 12 pictures next to one another. We also show images of the sculpted feather detail of both consoles (image 7 / 8) so you have no doubt, these are a true pair. Also please note the minor differences in the sculpting of the wood. These pieces were set upon crystal balls to add height, as they were in our Paris showroom with 4 meter (12.5 foot) high ceilings. The extra 7" is not in the given measurements below but, if you want to use them in a ten meter or more space, you could leave them in. Please let us know the destined ceiling height, we will remove them unless asked to leave them in. We show them without the balls in the last two images. Breche is a category of marble which makes the most beautiful types of marble of all with Alep and (Breche) Violette being very unique and beautiful and perhaps the most desirable in 18th century furniture tabletops amd fireplaces ( The giant fireplace of Breche Violette at Versailles Palace for example). Both, sadly were gone by the early 1800s. The gold leaf is unchanged from when we acquired them, and it looks great. These are a gorgeous pair of historical French console tables! While they are in very good condition, please be aware, if you are not a pro. That 18th century wood is to be cared for gently generally so they should be placed in an appropriate place. We put bronze clocks and big crystal vases on them so they are completely usable. (The final image is of Breche Violette marble, at Versailles Palace).
