A rare and a little unusual carved gilt wood console table from the early 20th century.
Hand-crafted in Italy, solid wood construction, distressed painted gold lacquered gilded bronze finish, unique shapely bombe form, having a serpentine shaped top elegantly finished with book-matched parquetry inlay forming heart shaped wood grain patterns, over an undulating scalloped apron decorated in Rocaille taste flowing scrolls and counter-scrolls, two frieze drawers with red interior provide storage space, over the richy detailed elaborately sculpted pierced scrollwork accents and openwork carvings to the curvacious single center cabriole leg support, in front of the shaped back, rising from curved base
The beautiful antique, circa 1920, is as warm and attractive as it is functional, it is freestanding and can be used as a wall console, hall foyer or entry table, or demilune low side table. The piece is interesting and uncommon, with a luxurious presence, decadently gilded, ornately detailed, highly stylized, sure to become a focal point while adding a touch of sophisticated elegance.
