About the Item
Beautiful Italian antique wood carved console table or side table, with beveled top and the X shaped legs, formed by many slats and finishing on carved feet, typical of the so-called Savonarola Chair, term that derives from the chair on which the Savonarola used to sit. The X-formed chair was copied from an ancient Roman form in almost every European country. Also known as a Savonarola, the chair is named for the Italian Renaissance religious zealot Girolamo Savonarola. Originally used as hall chairs, they were more for decoration than actual seating as is this console table, ideal in an entrance or hallway as a side table for plants or decorative vase.
