About the Item

A fine 19th Century French Louis XV Rococo style giltwood wall mounted console having the original Rouge Royal marble top above a giltwood frame with rounded corners. Featuring an intricately carved frieze with a central shell and foliate motifs, this beautiful console is raised on elegant cabriole legs adorned with richly carved acanthus leaves ending in scrolled French toes. The legs are joined by a striking curved stretcher with a shell and foliate design. All original gilt with red oxidation showing through the beautiful water gilded patina. Dimensions: H - 35.5" W - 45.5" D - 14".

This custom made, one-of-a-kind Louis XV style Rococo wall console was handcrafted by a master artisan in the South of France using antique wood and an original 18th-century giltwood curtain pelmet. Painted in a softly aged creamy white, the console incorporates the richly gilded pelmet, showcasing the exuberant curves and carved ornament synonymous with the French Rococo. The shaped apron features a central rocaille-framed cartouche with scrolling acanthus, clustered roses, and expressive S- and C-curves, all masterfully carved in the 1700s and preserved with an authentically time-worn patina.
