About the Item
An elegant and large scale French 18th century Louis XVI Period Giltwood and Sagario Marble console. The stunning freestanding console, and its original marble top, are raised by four circular tapered fluted legs with elegant chandelles in the flutes. The legs display charming toupie shaped feet while at the top are mottled bands with beaded trims. The straight pierced apron has an elegant central recessed panel with a laurel wreath next to a berried laurel branch which are all signs of peace. Amidst the laurels is a quiver filled with arrows which is a sign of protection. The central panel is flanked by attractive pierced circular motifs with central rosettes and bordered by a beaded trim. Above is its original rectangular shaped Sagario Marble supported by a mottled Giltwood trim below.
