About the Item

A stunning and most impressive French 19th century Louis XV st. giltwood and Rouge de Languedoc marble console. The freestanding console is raised by beautiful tapered cabriole legs with fine square feet and striking scrolled richly carved acanthus leaves. Each leg is connected by a most decorative and finely detailed stretcher with a wonderfully executed scrolled foliate design and a pierced floral central reserve in a striking satin and burnished finish. At the corner of each leg are superb Fleur de Lys carvings and sensational foliate seashells set on a powerful and most decorative lattice design. The pierced scalloped shaped apron is centered by a charming and finely detailed flower bud flanked by lavish scrolled movements with gadroon designs and foliate designs. Each side is decorated in a similar manner with a pierced central reserve, foliate seashell, beautiful scrolls and a finely detailed lattice background. Above is the original thick Rouge de Languedoc marble top with with a fine scalloped shape and mottled border. All original gilt throughout.
