About the Item

An exquisitely detailed French 19th century Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble and Giltwood console. The "D" shaped freestanding console is raised on four circular tapered fluted legs with block rosettes below wrap around acanthus leaf carvings at the base and mottled top caps above. The legs are joined by a pierced scrolled stretcher with spiral carved edges, and a central reserve of an urn of blossoming flowers. Above each leg are large scale rectangular blocks with central rosettes which flank the apron showcasing a stunning Vitruvian scroll band. At the central is a reserve with a bow and flaming torch (representing protection), a flowering wreath with two laurel vines (representing peace), all above a gently draped foliate carving. Above is the wonderful white Carrara marble top, which follows the shape of the console and is finished with a mottled edge.
