About the Item
A handsome French 19th century Empire st. Mahogany, Ormolu and Vert de Patricia marble console. This impressive freestanding console is raised on a wide rectangular flame Mahogany base with rounded ends below the front legs. Above are circular columns with finely detailed Ormolu plinths and capitals, while at the back are rectangular columns with top and bottom mottled trims. The legs leads to the top frieze which is fitted with a single drawer and adorned with a richly chased Ormolu mount of a female bust wearing a tiara in her hair. An abundance of flowers decorates her hair amidst scrolled, reeded and foliate designs on both sides. At each end of the drawer, and above each column, are Ormolu mounts of soldiers with helmets. Above lays the original and thick Vert de Patricia marble top.
