About the Item
Elegant Italian Art Deco console or small writing desk from the 1930s, finely crafted and fully finished on both sides, allowing it to be placed freely in the center of a room. The proportions are compact yet architectural, making it suitable both as a console table and as a petite desk.
The structure is characterized by a refined contrast of woods: richly figured burl veneer (likely walnut burl) used on the top, side panels and front elements, paired with darker solid wood elements that define the vertical supports and base. The grain of the burl is particularly expressive, with warm honey tones and natural variations that give depth and movement to the surfaces. A discreet central drawer with a chromed spherical pull adds a subtle modernist accent typical of the period.
The top is veneered in darker wood, creating an elegant visual counterpoint to the lighter burl edges. As visible in the detailed photographs, the surface shows small marks and signs of use, consistent with age and original function. These have been intentionally preserved as part of a conservative restoration approach.
The piece has undergone a careful conservative restoration, including minor structural repairs and surface stabilization. It remains in good overall vintage condition, with signs of age and use that contribute to its authenticity and historical character.
